Privacy

The short version: there are no accounts, no tracking cookies and no selling of anything about you. Your reading list, passport and collections live on your own device. When you use a feature that needs another service, like book covers or the recipe maker, only what that feature needs is sent.
What stays on your device
Keenfolk Reads saves these in your browser's local storage, on your device only. We can't see them, and clearing your browser data removes them:
- your "want to read" and "read" lists, passport stamps and badges
- collections, saved moods and your recipe box
- recently viewed books, and small caches of cover, author and ISBN lookups that make the site faster
When you share a collection or reading list, its contents are packed into the link itself. Anyone with the link can see what's in it, so share it the way you'd share any message.
Services the site talks to
- Open Library (Internet Archive), for book covers and ISBNs.
- Wikipedia and Wikidata, for author photos, summaries and official links.
- Google Fonts and cdnjs, which deliver the site's fonts and map code.
- OpenStreetMap, for map tiles when you open the bookstore and events map.
- keenfolx.com (Shopify), for the Keenfolk products shown on the site.
- Netlify, which hosts the site and, like any web host, keeps standard server logs such as IP addresses and pages requested.
These services receive the basic information any website receives when your browser asks for something, such as your IP address.
The recipe maker
When you ask Cook the book for a recipe, the passage you paste or the page photo you add is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to write the recipe. Keenfolk Reads doesn't store your passage or photo, and nothing you send is shown on the site. Anthropic handles API data under its own policies.
Suggestions and emails
If you suggest a book, the details you type (and your name or email, if you choose to add them) are sent to us through our host's form service so we can read them. Buttons like "Suggest a store" or "Send to Reader's kitchen" open your own email app; nothing is sent until you press send.
Visitor statistics
We may use a privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics tool (such as Plausible) to count visits and which features are used, like how often books are shared. It doesn't use cookies or build profiles of individual people.
Links to other sites
Links to Bookshop.org, Libro.fm, WorldCat, bookstores, news sites, podcasts and social media take you to sites with their own privacy policies. Some book links are affiliate links, which means Keenfolk Reads may earn a small commission when you buy, at no extra cost to you. Those sites may use cookies to credit the sale.
Children
The site includes books for young readers but doesn't ask anyone for personal information, and it isn't designed to collect information from children.
